June 2005 : New release on Earsheltering :

GORGô : "Aucune complaisance" earS006

GORGô : projet d'improvisation hardcore dynamisante et médusante
>

anotherGIZYA - 11 artists colonize liquid sphere's GIZYA

The project :

*colonize (v.): to take over & occupy; to make a place your own, to take control of it; to impose ideologies onto occupied people*

* At the end of 2003 and the beginning of 2004, ten artists were sent a copy of liquid sphere's 'GIZYA' and/or the sounds and field recordings used in the creation of that album. During the following months, each of these artists sent back one or more remixes or new tracks created using the source material they had been provided with. The result is 'anotherGIZYA', a collection of tracks demonstrating how original and dedicated to their craft their creators are. *

"An abundance of good ideas can be a mixed blessing. The Chopstick Sisters have bolstered their otherwise straightforward improvisational experimentalism with the kind of intricacy that will surely surprise you. This is exuberant, viciously lovely stuff that ripples with creativity and skilled teamwork. A refreshing take on a genre that has its fair share of generic journeymen."

JADE web (june 2005)

" It's not a complacent, easy on the ear piece as it's too full of foreboding and tension for that but it does allow the listener space to wind down. A very interesting release in it's darkly catchy way..."

"don't get any on me

After looking nervously at their test results France based label 3patttes finds they have a new release from HIV+. This latest disc is entitled "interferencias" and offers up 3 tracks (they should have worn long sleeves) of original material plus a remix compliments of Planetaldol. Adding to the cheery fun times, the disc is packaged in a Petri dish with the origin of said dish in question (let's hope they are not out of the local clinic's refuse). They are selling these suckers off for 7€ postage paid world wide and for more details hassle"

Heathen Harvest (april 2005)

"The 4th release by the French label of artists Planetaldol & Finalcut, 3 Pattes Productions, is a sizable offering from over 20 artists and several countries. Each of the artists involved were asked to work around a common theme, an 80's horror film entitled "Maniac," and to emulate its sound. Each artist thus composed a piece after having viewed this film, and in some cases, even created what might be close to cover songs from the original film versions. Even without prior knowledge of the method to this madness, my first impression was exactly that! I felt from the open Cortex cut that these sounds would be perfect along with a horror film, so right away, you see that they were successful. The two discs in the set are quite different. Disc one, entitled XANIX, contains the more accessible industrial pieces and soundtrack experiments. It's surprisingly cohesive, considering that there were 14 different artists on it. The disc is peppered with clearly horror-esque sounds like the hell's bells tolling in the opening Cortex track, the howling noises buried in dark ambient drones from -Cutman-, and toy organs in front of forboding tones from Iloj Tone. Though the general mood and theme of the disc is carried throughout all of its 16 tracks, several pieces stood out to me, as moments of variance and exceptionality. The first six tracks are all relatively short pieces before Ripit come in with "Fancy Girls in Fancy Dresses" (which also plays along w/a video track on the 2nd disc, seemingly from the film 'Maniac') the longest song on the disc. The track is filled with industrial beats, heavily distorted bass lines, and ends with what sounds like an electro-battle between two auditory armies, or two horrific foes fighting to the aural death. Track 13 from BeNe GeSSeRiT comes in with whispery backwards breaths and backmasked synths sounding like an Asian lullaby from another dimension, perhaps within the nightmares of a victim, and is a short sweet 2 minutes. Track 14 from Spin0 sounds like a plane flying in and landing by you, no doubt unloading something fearsome. Cortex close out the disc much like they opened it, and I was left wanting more.

Disc two, entitled MINAX, is filled with the label's more experimental line-ups, & I felt adhered more closely to the themes I would associate with the word 'maniac' if not the film. It features a more sundry range of strange sounds, and often times the various pieces move through a number of moods and modes just in the few short minutes each project was allotted. TrombOne start it off with clanging ticking sounds, echoes bouncing from ear to ear, strangely mutated string instrumentation, drones, loops, and rumbling bass. Eventually we hear a voice say, "you're so scared that they'll take you away, but they won't if you do what I say." Suddenly the sounds are flipping backwards slurping past your ears. NOW we are IN the maniacal mind, not just running from it or witnessing it. We are hearing its inner voices. Then Dell.tree issue foth the sounds of children playing, electronically altered mouth sounds, and electrified water. We hear Giscard Le Survivant's foreboding tones that fade out fast & leave me wanting more, and a laboratory song with organs & wheezing from Finaldoll.

The shining centerpieces to me were the next three segments. Atrabilis Sunrise's static sounds creep up slowly on beds of groaning reversing loops. Disembodied & strangely mouthed voices follow them out like mocking laughter from deep within a void. Suddenly they submerge you in heavily distorted percussion. Soon you're surprised again as the voices return to join the beats in synchronized humming, one voice in either ear. Then, what sounds like reel to reel tape itching as the whole piece glitches along to its end, unlike anything, incomparable originality. The 2nd part of this centerpiece was Pi Cab Alter. From an opening moment of minimal ambience, slow melodies, & a crying voice, the song moves into danceable beats, very muffled bass lines, and intermittently the sounds of things being slid slammed & jerked around. Like musique concrete these sounds are expertly looped to fit the rhythms. Thankfully, this is one of the longest pieces on the disc. Next we hear Moon, who seem to be aptly named. The sound is very martian-like, theremin noises, gargled laser retro sci-fi themes.

TZII then come at you like something rolling by on train tracks, or the monotonous clamor of a machine in a factory, deeply panning echoes, long silences, and the dramatic scraping of ribbed metal. Zerogoki drips out of the speakers with intense thematic insanity as well. Ever increasing crescendo & layer upon layer of noises adding up over quiet whispering voices, pitches raising very high then disappearing, very high & disappearing again and again, then quickly dropping out, leaving water, crickets, and once again the inner voices of an insane mind. Another strangely pleasant surprise was from Bleetch. You hear clocks ticking in time & manipulated into new trilling rhythms, distorted vacuum sounds, then breathing. The disc is wrapped up by We are Gentleman, who simultaneously provide crescendo finales & repeatedly rising aural tensions, the grumbling rumbles of a fuzzy storm, then static wet like rain in puddles, & it echoes out, much like it echoed in at the beginning of the disc. All in all, a very engaging listen. We can surely expect mountains of original sounds from the folks at 3Pattes. For now, these discs give us plenty of time to drown in our own imagined film, ponder insanity, and realize yet again that we will never cease to find surprises issuing forth. "

FinalCut : Denorme : GIAG (january 2005)

«Again, we dive into the deep, mysterious world of industrial experiments. This album is six tracks full of improvisations. It sounds more electronic due to the use synth-sounds containing some effects. You'll find no rhythm but only long repetitive and cosmic sounds which will bring you after some time to a deserved rest... Chill out!»

Planetaldol - grand bois / Final Cut - denorme Versus

Planetaldol : Grand Bois : GIAG (january 2005)

«These six compositions give us a wide repertoire growing into more complex soundscapes, a bit wider, a bit more experimental and extremely chilling - a lullaby for the new millennium. Dark and deep carpet of sounds.»

Merje Lõhmus

Phosphor magazine (april 2004)

"Tracks features some field recordings and manipulated recordings of voices, very nice stuff indeed.

Planetaldol seems to be responsible for the drones of the previous CD of 3patttes records (finaldoll "prolifere"). A grim message is delivered to us in five tracks. A slow fall inward. There are some sounds that I vaguely recognize as I tumble down - this is night listening material indeed. Some of the sounds used were not that appealing to me, i.e. barking dogs and some moaning of someone on the run for something, but I guess it fits the general atmosphere of the tracks, so it's not a bad thing at all, I would say. This reminded me more of Raison D'être. The CD ends with more processed voices and people talking, but very disturbing-sounding.
Say 3pattes team, could we hear some more please?
"

Finaldoll "Prolifere" Staticsignals (february 2005)

«Finaldoll shapes slow-moving ambient structures with singular purpose in the quiet and patient release Prolifere. Like huge landscape paintings of abstract grey rivers wrapped in sheets of cloudy gauze the dark ambient sounds of this work numb and soothe, but with each short piece conveying a definitive gesture that gives shape, form, function.

A collaborative project between Finalcut and Planetaldol, the two have come together to perfectly complement each other. Each of the pieces of Prolifere is able to shift time, focus on a single moment and extend and savor it, as the floating atmospheric electronics and slowed natural sounds slowly build into a structure, revealing nuanced secrets, and then fade, or desconstruct, or spawn a new derivative of their original form.

"isolement" features a deep, reverberant, shifting harmony that is dabbed gently with panning static brush strokes. Spacey filtered synth washes crescendo up from the texture and give birth to scraping, scratching entities that are absorbed back into the soundscape as quickly as they appeared.

"frippe" centers itself around a glitchy hi-hat-like rhythm, with slowed backwards sounds and gritty fuzz crawling in and out of the stereo field. The hi-hat propels the piece forward, carrying the other slower moving elements as if they were transcendental passengers on an imaginary train.

"mInuteMAid" presents a beautiful, chordal harmony which is alive with pulsing movement, with ambient scraping sounds gently caressing this texture. While quite minimal in overall design, the effect is hypnotic, involving, with a natural, human feel.

"signal bruit" gives us droning, floating synthetics whose ringing tones build into distant, fluttering echoes of hum, glitchy staticks, and pulsing resonance. Again, the gesture is simple and drawn out, but involving and effective.

By keeping each of the pieces just the right length (4-5 minutes), the potency of each is maximized, and instead of wondering when each will be over, they leave you wanting to hear each again.»

Aujourd'hui, demain.

3patttes is a dual head label, created with the intention to produce and distribute young artists who didn't find an "official" label yet.

The support will be on 3" CD's, we believe in this format, for its perfect length, and also the fact that it can be easily recognized. But there is no proudness in this attitude, we are not precious.

The first CD is a collaboration, these are tracks we enjoyed a lot, other artists are planned, and also a compilation, based (freely based) on a movie soundtrack, feel free to ask details.
